Ballet — Tinies (2.5–4 yrs)

Al Barsha South, Dubai40 min per session2–4 years

About this activity

As the exclusive British Ballet Organisation examination centre in the UAE, British Dance Academy brings genuine BBO credentialing even to its youngest class — though at this age the syllabus is taught almost entirely through stories, music, and imaginative play rather than formal technique. Pink leotards and ballet shoes are required, partly for the practical reason of proper foot and joint support even in play-based movement. No experience needed; weekend morning sessions run Saturday and Sunday, with a free trial available.

What to expect from dance classes

This session runs 40 minutes, for ages 2–4. Classes follow a structured format: warm-up and stretching, technique work (barre exercises for ballet, isolations for hip-hop), choreography or creative work, and cool-down. Most academies hold an annual performance or recital — a genuine highlight for students and families. Dress codes vary by style: ballet typically requires leotard and soft shoes, while hip-hop and contemporary are more relaxed. British Dance Academy offers a free trial session before you commit.

What to look for when choosing a provider

  • Instructors with RAD, ISTD, or equivalent teaching qualifications specific to their dance style
  • An annual showcase, recital, or performance that gives students a meaningful goal
  • Sprung or specialised dance floors that protect joints during jumps and turns
  • A free trial is available at British Dance Academy — try before you commit

Parent tip

Dance develops confidence through performance. If your child is hesitant, give them at least a full term before deciding — the end-of-term showcase is often the moment they discover they love it.
