Intensive teenage Taekwondo building competitive fighting skills, advanced poomsae, and genuine leadership qualities — a step up in both intensity and expectation from the children's programme, with real local and regional competition opportunities for students who want them. Phoenix treats character development as inseparable from technical progress at every level, not just a marketing line for younger classes. Ages 12 to 17; sessions run Tuesday, Thursday evenings, and Sunday late-morning, with a free trial available.
This session runs 60 minutes, for ages 12–17. Classes follow a structured format: a formal bow-in, warm-up and conditioning, technique drills, and practice with partners. Children are never paired with adults. The belt or grading system provides clear milestones — most academies hold gradings every 3–4 months. Uniforms (gi or dobok) are usually required and can be purchased through the academy. Phoenix Black Belt Academy offers a free trial session before you commit.
Parent tip
Quality martial arts instruction emphasises restraint and respect, not aggression. If a class feels intimidating or overly competitive for beginners, it's the wrong academy. The best instructors create an environment where children genuinely want to return.
