Formal music theory spanning grades 1 through 8 (ABRSM/Trinity) — sight-reading, ear training, harmony, and composition — aimed at students who want the theoretical foundation that pure instrument lessons don't always cover. It's a genuinely useful addition for any serious musician, and specifically valuable for students in school music programmes where theory knowledge is assessed separately from performance. Weekend sessions, Saturday and Sunday at midday; a free trial is available.
This session runs 55 minutes, for ages 8+. Private lessons focus on individual technique and are ideal for beginners building foundational skills. Group lessons develop ensemble awareness and cost roughly half the price. Many academies follow ABRSM or Trinity curricula, providing internationally recognised grade examinations that mark structured progress from Grade 1 to Grade 8. Solid Rock Music Institute offers a free trial session before you commit.
Parent tip
Consistency matters more than intensity in music learning. A child who practises 15 minutes daily progresses faster than one who crams an hour the night before a lesson. Ask the teacher for a realistic home practice recommendation for your child's level.
