Expressive contemporary dance combining modern technique, improvisation, and choreography, aimed at developing strength, flexibility, and genuine creative performance skills rather than a fixed syllabus of set steps. It's a deliberately different discipline from Turning Pointe's RAD ballet track, appealing to dancers who want more interpretive freedom alongside technical training. Ages 7 to 17; sessions run Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, with a free trial class available.
This session runs 60 minutes, for ages 7–17. Classes follow a structured format: warm-up and stretching, technique work (barre exercises for ballet, isolations for hip-hop), choreography or creative work, and cool-down. Most academies hold an annual performance or recital — a genuine highlight for students and families. Dress codes vary by style: ballet typically requires leotard and soft shoes, while hip-hop and contemporary are more relaxed. Turning Pointe Dance Studios offers a free trial session before you commit.
Parent tip
Dance develops confidence through performance. If your child is hesitant, give them at least a full term before deciding — the end-of-term showcase is often the moment they discover they love it.
